2019 Rosé: Shelter in Place

What we’re all looking for now is some comfort—that is universal. We may not find it outside our homes, but we can find it in our kitchens. Look no further for a meal that warms the soul while also leaving your wine glass satisfied with the perfect Rhône rosé blend!

 

When it comes to our 2019 Rosé, we’re looking at a blend featuring 62% Mourvèdre, 21% Grenache, and 17% Syrah – a great balance of fruit and acid to complement some of my favorite dishes that remind me of home. Persian and Armenian foods typically rely on the quality of fresh ingredients rather than excessive use of spices to bring you dishes with combinations of different tastes and aromas…in comes Baghali Polo and Mast-o-Khiar, two staple dishes that balance each other out and complement our delicious 2019 Rosé!

 

Baghali Polo is a popular Iranian dish. Baghali means fava bean, while polo is pilaf, a style of cooked rice. Throw in some fresh dill, and you have the perfect rice dish with great flavors. Mast-o-Khiar may seem like tzatziki to you, but it’s actually much thicker and includes more fresh herbs to give you a refreshing yogurt salad that can be served alongside rice, meat, and even spread over pita bread. Mast translates to yogurt and khiar translates to cucumber.

For the Mast-o-Khiar  |  Total Time: 15 mins  |  Serves: 8

Ingredients:

    • 2 cups of labne (thicker texture than traditional yogurt) or Greek yogurt
    • 4 small Persian cucumbers, finely diced
    • ½ cup finely chopped dill
    • ½ cup finely chopped mint
    • 1 small shallot, minced
    • 1 small garlic clove, minced
    • Kosher salt and pepper to taste
    • ½ lemon

Directions: In a medium bowl, stir the yogurt with the cucumbers, dill, mint, shallot and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Squeeze the lemon juice into the mixture. Mix thoroughly and enjoy!
