Epoch Retrospective Tasting: 2009’s
Tasting the 2010s was awesome. So awesome that we had to keep popping corks. I mean, what a better way to pass the time, right? We followed up by going back a year to 2009 —a harvest that had some hardships—but ultimately yielded incredible wines for Epoch.
The first great example is 2009 Sensibility. Softened tannins, good acidity, and bright fruit aromas lead the way on this wine. Hints of vanilla and cedar are also present, as this vintage of Sensibility saw a little more oak aging than its predominantly concrete counterparts from recent years.
The 2009 Veracity is super tasty as well. This Veracity is a full-bodied GSM that is almost equal parts Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah. Its even combination of red fruit, roasted herbs, and pepper make this wine a perfect companion to grilled meats and veggies.
The 2009 Estate Blend is the strongest of the bunch with its beefy Syrah core. Playing supporting roles in the blend are Mourvèdre, Grenache, Tempranillo, and Zinfandel, with every grape shining beautifully and distinctly. The age has allowed its oak-derived components to boast as well, bringing you a wine of depth, but even more so, a wine that is just DELICIOUS. Drink an ’09 Epoch in the next week or so, and your palate will thank you.
