Epoch’s Fall Newsletter

Your Company

We hope your October has been accompanied by crisp fall weather, some fun in the midst of what continues to be a wild year, and good wine.  Up on the Mountain, we have wrapped up the actual harvesting chapter of Harvest 2020, and our team is working away in the winery.  Though this vintage threw us a multitude of curveballs, the wines we have fermented thus far are tasting great.  Here’s hoping our 2020 wines help redeem what has been a tough year!  Beyond harvest, we have been busy bees (more on bees in the side bar) preparing for the holiday season, Fall Release tastings and shipments, etc., so we wanted to touch base on a variety of Epoch happenings.

Harvest Update from Jordan and Kyle

The 2020 vintage was very in line with, well, 2020.  Between the unusually mild June and July temperatures, a surprise rain and thunderstorm in late August, and a triple digit heat wave that kicked off harvest shortly thereafter, we have continuously been kept on our toes.  Harvest time itself was a bit compressed this year with fairly consistent warming trends pushing all varieties to ripeness in a similar time frame.  It was interesting to see a vintage where our usual, first-to-pick blocks ripened later than others and whites, rosés, and reds were coming in on the same days.  Our team did an amazing job juggling it all!

Despite all the twists and turns, we are feeling really good about the vintage as a whole. This is one of those years (like 2015) that reminds us that what happens climactically in August isn’t the only determining factor of the vintage.  We are getting lots of bright, pretty aromas and flavors off these wines and long, soft tannins.  The 2020 vintage is looking really good, and we are excited to watch it evolve!

Holiday Offering

Save the date for our Holiday Offering!  On Nov. 11th at 10 AM PST, we will add two special wines to our Online Store for the holidays – 2016 Reserva Tempranillo and 2019 White with extended age, an Epoch first!  Our Online Store will include other wines as well (a special shout-out to 2016 Estate Blend, which just made #30 on Wine Enthusiast‘s Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2020!) , and we will be offering inclusive shipping for all orders of at least two bottles starting today – December 13th!  Please note that our production of 2016 Reserva Tempranillo is small, so if you are interested in this wine, we suggest adding November 11th to your calendar now.  We will, however, send an email on this date to remind you of the offering.  Elite members, you will get a 24-hour head start on purchasing these wines, and we will be emailing you separately.  We look forward to sharing 2016 Reserva Tempranillo and our 2019 White Extended Age with you the week of November 11th!

Epoch Gifting

We are in the business of making great wines first and foremost, but a close second is cultivating Epoch moments.  What better way is there to help spread the joy good wine can bring than by giving the gift of Epoch?  Whether it be to co-workers, clients, friends, or family members, we’re excited to share that we have pooled together a variety of fun options (think personalized etching, Epoch engraved boxes, complimentary Virtual Tastings, fun gift add-ons, etc.) for gifting Epoch this holiday season and beyond.  Click here to read through all the details and options.  We can send Epoch to large groups of individuals in various cities or to as few as one or two special people, all while making the present unique through a variety of add-on options.  Please reach out to us with any questions or special requests; we are here to make gifting wine easier than ever before!  We hope you will consider giving the gift of Epoch this holiday season and throughout the rest of the year!

Upcoming Live Tasting:

Details are still in the works, but save the date for a Virtual Tasting hosted by the first American Woman Master Sommelier, Madeline Triffon, featuring our very own Jordan Fiorentini plus Amanda Wittstrom Higgins of Ancient Peaks Winery.  This Virtual Tasting, “Paso Women Rock!,” will take place on November 12th at 6:30 EST.  Please email Audrey if you are interested in receiving the official details once plans are set in stone.  We will also update our Events page and social media when we know more.

A Few Videos & A Blog Post:

Some of you know that we added a hive of honeybees to our Epoch family earlier this year.  This docile colony of bees has been helping us pollinate our apple trees.  They are doing such a great job that we decided to split the hive and take half of the bees up to our Victory Garden atop York Mountain for further pollination.  Watch our Equine Manager, Annie DeFeyter, split the hive into two here.  For those who missed our 10 Years of Epoch Release video, click here for a fun walk down Memory Lane.  If you want to take a quick minute and a half visit to Paso, click here for a peaceful fly-over of Harvest at York Mountain Vineyard.  Thanks to Manu Fiorentini, Jordan’s husband, for the drone footage!  And finally, click here for a fall food and wine pairing by Becky Butz – yes, that is the same Becky you all know and love; she just has a new last name. Ü Congrats to our beloved Becky and husband, Mo, on tying the knot earlier this month!

Epoch in Michigan!

We are so excited to share that we are now distributing our wines in Michigan!  This means that our friends in The Great Lakes State can now find select bottles of Epoch in local restaurants and boutique wine shops.  Friends in Michigan, go support these awesome accounts who now carry Epoch: Plum Market Bloomfield, Old Woodward Cellar, Bacco Ristorante, Besa, Birmingham Country Club, Holiday Market, Knollwood Country Club, Merchants Gourmet Wine, Nonna Maria’s, Randazzo, Simply Wine, The Wine Guy, and Red Wagon Rochester.

Thanksgiving Wine Pairings:

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and we are already daydreaming about turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.  Naturally, this inspires some team conversations about our favorite Epoch pairings for this special day.  While most of our wines shine with fall flavors (see Becky’s blog above for more inspiration), we do want to highlight 2019 Rosé and 2016 Veracity.  Both of these Mourvèdre dominant GSM blends pair beautifully with turkey, and they are both tasting amazing right now.  2019 Rosé and 2016 Veracity are available in our Online Store now and will stay there through the holidays.  If you head over to the right column, you can read about our official holiday offering.  Starting today, all orders of at least two bottles will qualify for inclusive shipping through December 13th.  Gobble, gobble & ho, ho, ho!
