Epoch 12 Days of Christmas: Day 8

On the eighth day of Christmas

Epoch gave to me

Eight extra months of oak!

This year we released something new to Epoch, an extended age white! Our 2019 White Extended Age spent eight extra months in a foudre (a French oak cask). We love what the extended age has done to our white wine, and we can’t wait to share with you!

47% Grenache Blanc | 42% Viognier | 11% Roussanne

Catapult, Paderewski, & York Mountain Vineyards; Aged 12 months in a foudre

Notes from Jordan: “This “winter white” is the same blend as our earlier release of 2019 Epoch White, but with 8 more months of age in a French oak cask (foudre) and no filtration. The additional time in wood yields a richer wine, but with delicacy and great finesse. The texture is heightened, acidity is softened, yet its minerality and freshness remain. Aromas are other-worldly, jumping out of the glass initially with ripe bosc pear, key lime pie, vanilla bean, wet rock, and citrus blossom. With air, the wine softens more, becomes creamier, and flavors develop into white peach, honeysuckle, sweet ginger, and lemon curd. The palate adds gravitas to the aromas and is best described in drawing, hence the reason it is the first Epoch White to receive a Vinpression. While sensational now, this white will continue to develop with several months to years in the bottle.”
