Epoch’s success is a blend of science, history, and art. The Armstrongs’ meticulous approach to winemaking, combined with the expertise of winemaker Jordan Fiorentini, who joined the team in 2010, has resulted in wines that are celebrated for their quality and character. Without a great site, you can’t grow the best fruit, and without the best winemaker, you can’t make the greatest expression of that place.

Our 2021 York Mountain Syrah is made entirely from grapes off our York Mountain Vineyard.  This vineyard site is located just seven miles from the Pacific Ocean at an elevation of 1,500 feet and falls in the small 640 acre York Mountain AVA, which is outside of the very large Paso Robles AVA.  The soils and climate here are very different than our other two vineyards; at York, you’ll find sand and sandstone soils (a stark contrast to the limestone you’d find over at Paderewski Vineyard or the shale at Catapult Vineyard) along with a very moderate climate due to the even closer proximity to the Pacific Ocean.  Because of its elevation and distance from the ocean, York Mountain receives more than twice the amount of rainfall as our other vineyards and has characteristic foggy mornings throughout the year with cool breezes all day long.

It’s officially Rosé season, and there’s no better way to shout it from the roof tops than with the love our Epoch Rosé recently received from The Tasting Table.  Wine writer and Sommelier, Hayley Hamilton Cogil, compiled a comprehensive list of “25 Rosé Wine Brands, Ranked Worst To Best,” and we were beyond excited to find ourselves in her #1 spot.  In a separate article, The Tasting Table‘s Courtney Brandt deemed Epoch “The Only Rosé Wine You Need To Pick Up At The Store.”  See below for Cogil and Brandt’s high praises of our Epoch Rosé!

We are excited to share some news: our 2021 Veracity just received an outstanding 99 points from Wine Enthusiast!  While we know our wines are beautiful and they always make us proud, this kind of recognition from world-renowned critics makes us stop and truly savor how awesome our wines (and our team) really are.  Scores like this are humbling, encouraging, and so fun to share with others!  Epoch is a special place with really special wines, and we are grateful that Wine Enthusiast can see and taste this too.
