The Wine Independent: Epoch

We are thrilled to share that Epoch has been featured in a wonderful article on The Wine Independent! This piece beautifully captures the essence of our journey and the passion that drives us.
Epoch’s success is a blend of science, history, and art. The Armstrongs’ meticulous approach to winemaking, combined with the expertise of winemaker Jordan Fiorentini, who joined the team in 2010, has resulted in wines that are celebrated for their quality and character. As Bill Armstrong puts it, “Without a great location you can’t make a great wine. Without a great site, you can’t grow the best fruit, and without the best winemaker, you can’t make the greatest expression of that place.
Epoch began in 2004 when Bill and Liz Armstrong purchased the historic Paderewski Vineyard in Paso Robles. Over the years, they expanded their holdings to include the Catapult Vineyard in 2008 and the York Mountain Winery/Vineyard in 2010. As Bill Armstrong, a geologist by profession, explains, “I wanted to try and make the best Châteauneuf du Pape in America”. His dedication to studying the land, weather, and culture led him to the perfect location in Paso Robles.
The article highlights how Bill’s passion for wine was ignited in his late 30s after tasting a Stags Leap Cabernet. This transformative experience led him to immerse himself in the world of wine, eventually planting classic Rhône varieties on their land. The vineyards hold historical significance, once owned by the renowned Polish pianist and Prime Minister Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
