Mourvèdre

After showcasing Mourvèdre two years in a row as our 2013 and 2014 Creativity, we realized we were madly in love this wine and needed to make it a permanent member of our Epoch family. 2015 was our first bottling of Mourvèdre by its own name, and we hope to release it every year if Mother Nature gives us the fruit to do so. As one would suspect, this wine will always be Mourvèdre dominant (though it may be assisted by small amounts of other varieties depending on the vintage) and will consistently reflect the pure essence and unique quality that makes Mourvèdre such a distinct and exciting grape.

Biography: Bring on the old-world wine charm with Epoch’s 2019 Mourvèdre, a wine we don’t make every year, only when the Mourvèdre has something to say. This beauty boasts a potpourri of dried roses, dried herbs (rosemary and thyme), autumn forest, tea leaves, roasted mushrooms, milk chocolate, cured meats, sea air, red plum, and red cherry. With some time in your glass, more red fruit reveals itself as well does vanilla and black pepper, and the at-first-tight tannins soften and broaden. This wine is sure to impress you even more with 5-7 years cellar age.

Biography: This lovely lady is hanging with the big boys on this release, and boy, does she hold her own. Lightening the flavors up with her mid-palate style, she delivers leather, plum, rhubarb, blood orange, fresh herbs, white pepper, saline, and that earthiness that screams Mourvèdre. We don’t make this wine every year, only in vintages when this southern Rhône grape can stand alone.
